Irene’s grandmother taught her to crochet when she was six, and to knit when she was eight; a life-long love affair with all fiber arts was born. Knitting World published her first pattern in 1980. A few more hand knitting patterns, and a two-issue pattern drafting series were also published by Knitting World in the early 1980s. By the mid-1980s Irene switched to writing patterns for knitting machines. She was a staff writer for Alles Hutchinson’s News and Views and for Pat Wetzel’s Pat’s Patterns, and also had several patterns published in Machine Knitters Source.
Irene was a dealer for Studio knitting machines for twenty-two years. She taught classes at knitting machine seminars between 1983 and 2001, until closing her shop and moving to Arizona, where she owned a tailoring and alterations business for several years. She is now fully retired, and enjoys hand knitting and crocheting, as well as machine knitting.
This site began on GeoCities (a Yahoo web hosting provider) in 1997, as a place to share patterns and tutorials for knitting machines. A couple of years later it moved to it’s current host, GoDaddy, and has lived there since. The patterns and techniques from the old site are in the Free Patterns Archive section. Even though they are so old many don’t have photos, the information is still useful. We hope you enjoy them all!
