Stitch Scales

KR7 stand-alone Knit Contours are no longer being manufactured, and even pre-owned ones are getting harder to find. These often are sold without either the paper patterns or the stitch scales that were originally included. Missing paper patterns are not a huge problem, since it is possible to make your own, using schematics found in most modern hand knitting patterns, or printing out half- or quarter-scale patterns from software such as DesignAKnit or Cochenille’s Garment Designer.

Stitch scales, however, are not optional. The Knit Contour must have them in order to work. I did an extensive search online, and found only the set for standard gauge machines that can be downloaded and printed, to make your own at home, or a print shop.

I have the sets for all of the Studio (Silver Reed) machines, including bulky, midgauge, standard, and fine gauge models. Since some of these are not available anywhere, I have scanned the complete sets and uploaded them here as PDF files.

E Series Half Scale set
These stitch scales were originally sold with the LK 100 plastic bed machine, but they work in the KR7 as well. They are half-scale, with 0 on the left. This makes it possible to use half-scale patterns with the center line on the left side of the paper, instead of in the middle.

The scales are meant to be used on midgauge and bulky machines, and they go from 9 sts per 10 cm/4” through 26 sts per 10 cm/4”. Standard machines would need to use yarn that would normally knit at approximately T9 with these scales. Download them here.

F Series Full scale set
These are all the full-scale stitch scales that were made for the KR7 Knit Contours, both the stand-alone unit, and those that were built into the 700 series knitting machines. I purchased the extra sets for the bulky and fine gauge machines, and this group contains everything; they go from 9 sts per 10 cm/4” through 54 sts per 10 cm/4”. Download them here.

H Series Half Scale Set
These are all the half-scale stitch scales that were made for the KR7 Knit Contours, both the stand-alone unit, and those that were built into the 700 series knitting machines. I purchased the extra sets for the bulky and fine gauge machines, and this group contains everything; they go from 9 sts per 10 cm/4” through 54 sts per 10 cm/4”. Download them here.
